Four Seats

Black Audi A5 Convertible

A fabric roof that folds under the rear deck, four seats under it, and a boot that still works with the roof down.

The convertible you rent for a week, rather than for an afternoon.

Most open cars ask you to give something up — the back seats, the boot, the quiet. The A5 Cabriolet is the one that does not. Four seats in beige leather, a fabric roof that disappears under the rear deck, and a cabin calm enough at freeway speed to hold a conversation with it raised. Ours wears the RS front: honeycomb grille, silver blade under the lip, silver multi-spoke wheels.

01Above the city at dusk with the lamps lit. The line from the windscreen to the rear deck is what a folding metal roof would have cost it.

Roof up, this is an ordinary dark German coupe, and that is a feature rather than a criticism: nobody at the valet stand looks twice, and the cabin is quiet enough that a call on the 405 is bearable. Roof down it becomes an entirely different car, which is the whole trick of a soft-top and the reason a fabric roof is worth the compromise over a folding metal one.

For Los Angeles it is the practical open car. Malibu in the morning with the roof stowed, a dinner in Beverly Hills that evening with it up, and nobody arriving windblown for the second one.

Two cars in one day,
and about twenty seconds between them.

Queries

How much does it cost to rent an Audi A5 convertible in Los Angeles?
The black A5 Cabriolet is $137 a day. Five days is priced as a block rather than as five separate days, and twenty-one as another; the quote takes whichever combination is cheaper for your dates, and neither has to be asked for. Delivery to our Beverly Hills partner hotels is complimentary.
Do four adults really fit?
Two in front comfortably and two behind for shorter journeys — the cabin is coupe-shaped, so the rear is tighter than a saloon. For four adults across a whole day, the BMW 4 Series convertible is the roomier one.
Is there luggage space with the roof down?
Yes, less than with it up: the folded roof takes the top of the boot. Two soft weekend bags fit with it stowed, and a large hard case is easier with the roof raised.
Can I see the dates before I call?
Yes — the diary on this page is the live fleet calendar. If a date is open there, it is open.
