Every car starts on South Robertson Boulevard, between Beverly Hills and Culver City, and is hand-detailed before it goes anywhere. The drive out is ours, not yours: the car is at the house, the hotel or the venue before your time rather than dispatched at it, and collected the same way — which is the difference between a Malibu weekend and forty minutes each way to a counter.

PCH to Nobu and back with somebody else driving is the other Malibu day: lunch on the water, the afternoon on the sand, dinner up a canyon, the hotel with the sunset on the right, and no parking decision at any of them. What you need
To rent in Malibu
- 21 or over as standard. Drivers from 18 are considered case by case, on their own full-coverage insurance and a larger deposit, confirmed in writing before the day; under 25 there is a young-driver fee per day. How the age rule works.
- A licence held for at least two years, in the driver’s own name, presented at the handover. A foreign licence with a passport is fine; no International Driving Permit is asked for. Renting on a foreign licence.
- A credit card in the renter’s name for the refundable security deposit — $350 to $2,000, set by the car — held rather than charged, and released 5–7 business days after a clean return (about two weeks if there is minor damage to price; up to a month for anything serious). The deposit, explained.
- The Protection plan, $50 to $225 a day by the car’s deposit band, is part of every rental unless your own policy passes the four tests; it sits in the quote before you pay. Your policy or ours.

Is a convertible practical for a full day on the coast?
Yes. The marine layer usually burns off by late morning, the coast runs warm into the evening, and every convertible we deliver has a roof that goes up in seconds at speed. Take the Boxster or an open-top exotic and you will use it far more than you expect.
Can I keep the car for a coastal weekend?
Multi-day is the most common Malibu booking — a convertible for a weekend on the coast, or an SUV for a family stay at a beach house. Tell us the dates and we build the reservation around them, self-drive or with a chauffeur for the drive up.
Which canyon roads are worth the detour?
Three of them climb off the coast road and all three are worth the morning: Malibu Canyon inland over the ridge, Latigo for the switchbacks, Decker across the top towards Mulholland Highway. How far is the drive up the coast?
Topanga to the county line is twenty-one miles, and on a clear weekday morning that is under an hour end to end. From Beverly Hills it is about 22 to 25 miles to the Pier — Sunset to PCH, or the 10 to the coast — 45 minutes to an hour without traffic and rather more on a summer Saturday, when the traffic builds from mid-morning and the car parks fill.
