The case for a saloon in a city that buys SUVs
Five models, which makes this the smallest shelf on the site and the one with the plainest argument. Los Angeles is a freeway city that likes to describe itself as a driving city. A week here is mostly the 10, the 110 and the 405, four lanes of grooved concrete an hour at a time, and the body style drawn for exactly that is the sedan. Low roof, long wheelbase, weight sitting where it belongs, and no wind noise off a roof rail.
The second argument is that a saloon does not announce itself. An exotic in this city is filmed at every set of lights. A black BMW 7 is waved through the gate. For a studio lot, a dinner in Century City, or a run to LAX with somebody in the back who would rather arrive unremarked, that is the whole specification, and no amount of horsepower substitutes for it.
A saloon is also the natural car to be driven in rather than to drive, and that is arranged with the vehicle rather than bought separately — say so when you enquire and the car arrives with somebody at the wheel. It is the same five cars either way: the back seat of a 7 Series does not become a different back seat because you are sitting in it.
The five
Two BMW 7 Series, one black and one white, are the full-size sedans on the page: a hushed cabin, a rear bench that adults thank you for, and a turbocharged straight six that never makes a point of itself. The 7 Series is the most expensive sedan BMW builds, and the flagship of this shelf as well. The black one is for evenings and airport runs. The white one reads lighter in daylight and costs less by the day.
The Mercedes-AMG GT 43 is the outlier. It is a four-door with the roofline and the long bonnet of the two-seat GT, five seats, a hatch, and a cabin lit in whichever of sixty-four colours you set it to. In a different fleet it would be filed with the sports cars.
Then the two small ones. The Mercedes CLA 250 is the four-door coupé: frameless doors, a roof that falls all the way to the boot lid, and the same lit cabin as models three times the money. The BMW 3 Series is the benchmark the class has been measured against for fifty years, rear-driven and evenly balanced, and small enough to park on a residential street in Santa Monica or Westwood without a survey.
Miles, and the practical part
The mileage allowance is where the shape earns its keep. A luxury sedan carries the same daily allowance as an SUV, typically two hundred miles and the most generous on the site, where the exotics carry less. That matters because the trips people take in a sedan are long. Santa Barbara and back sits just inside it. Pasadena to the Westside twice is nothing. The exact figure is confirmed when you book.
The rest is short. Minimum twenty-four hours. Every model’s page carries its daily rate, and its five-day and twenty-one-day figures where the car has them, as does the rates page. A refundable deposit is taken at handover against a card in the primary renter’s name. We deliver to a hotel, a residence or an office, complimentary at our partner hotels in Beverly Hills, and collect at the end, so there is no counter to queue at either way. Drivers are 21 and over with two years of licence history, a young-driver fee applies between 21 and 25, and you will need full-coverage insurance of your own or one of our daily plans. The FAQ has the detail.
Downtown, and what delivery to a Downtown hotel costs
Downtown is an ordinary delivery address. The saloon is brought to the hotel entrance, the office lobby or the apartment kerb at the hour you name and collected from the same place at the end, which is the arrangement most people are actually asking about when they ask whether we deliver: not whether we can, but whether they have to go and get it. They do not.
The honest half. Complimentary delivery covers our Robertson Boulevard lot and our four partner hotels in Beverly Hills, and Downtown is neither, so a Downtown address is quoted with the car before anything is committed rather than being free. The rate itself does not move: the same five saloons, the same daily figures printed above, and the delivery as its own line in the quote.
The sports cars go there too, and that is a different page — a car in Downtown Los Angeles covers the two ways to collect one and the height sign at the mouth of the older parking structures, which a full-size SUV does not clear and none of these saloons troubles.
Do you rent luxury sedans in Downtown LA and deliver to a hotel?
Yes to both, and there is no counter at either end — the car is brought to the hotel and collected from wherever the trip finishes. The sedan shelf runs from $102 a day for the BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes CLA 250, through the white BMW 7 Series at $125, to the Mercedes AMG GT 43 at $229 and the black BMW 7 at $230. On the delivery: it costs nothing at our Robertson Boulevard showroom and the four Beverly Hills partner hotels, and a Downtown hotel is $150 in the online quote, itemised beside the rate, the cover and the deposit before anything is charged. Give us the hotel and the hour and the car is staged there, hand-detailed. What every point costs is on the delivery page.
