01Roof down, the deck behind the rear seats is almost as long as the bonnet in front of them. Nothing about the proportions is an accident.

Matte paint is a strange thing to spend money on. It costs more, it cannot be machine polished, and it looks like primer to anybody who does not know what they are looking at. What it does is remove every reflection from the bodywork, so instead of a moving mirror you get shape — the long bonnet, the fall of the flank, the way the deck runs flat to the tail.

Underneath the surface it is the ordinary miracle: a roof that folds away in about twenty seconds, doors that close themselves, and enough space behind the front seats that the back is not a gesture. Red hides against white paint is the loudest thing about it, and it is inside.

The matte white Dawn is $2,200 a day. The day rate is the whole of it on this car — there is no weekly or monthly block, so a longer booking is priced day by day. Delivery to our Beverly Hills partner hotels is complimentary.
Does it really seat four?
Yes, and that is the difference between it and most convertibles at this money. Two proper seats behind the front pair, with legroom rather than a shelf.
Is matte paint delicate?
It is looked after differently rather than more carefully — no machine polish, no wax. We hand it over detailed and we deal with the finish; nothing about it changes how you drive the car.
