The Suburban's job, fifteen inches shorter. Most weeks, that is the difference that matters.

The Tahoe is the Suburban with the tail cut short: the same underpinnings, the same V8, the same three rows and the same quiet at freeway speed, in a body that goes into an ordinary parking structure without the three-point turn. Seven seats, a boot behind the third row that takes the carry-ons, and the fold-flat rows for the day it is luggage rather than people.

Black on the current Tahoe works because the car is drawn with a lot of straight horizontal lines — the grille bar, the shoulder, the roofline — and a dark finish lets those read as one continuous piece instead of as separate panels. With the chrome bar across the grille and the silver wheels it reads as a car service at a hotel entrance and as a family car at a trailhead, which is the range this booking usually covers.

The honest trade is the boot: with all three rows up it takes carry-ons and soft bags, not a family's hard cases — for that, the Suburban is on its own page. For six people and a week of Los Angeles, this is the easier car to live with by a clear margin.

How much does it cost to rent a Chevrolet Tahoe in Los Angeles?
The black Tahoe is $279 a day. The day rate is the whole of it on this car — there is no weekly or monthly block, so a longer booking is priced day by day. Delivery to our Beverly Hills partner hotels is complimentary; LAX delivery is charged each way, in two tiers, and the figures are on our delivery page.
Tahoe or Suburban?
Length. The Suburban is the same car with fifteen inches more behind the third row — a boot that takes hard cases with every seat full. The Tahoe gives up that boot and gains a body that fits a parking structure and a hotel forecourt without ceremony. Six people with carry-ons: Tahoe. Eight people with cases: Suburban.
How many people does it really seat?

Is it hard to drive in Los Angeles?
Easier than it looks. It is tall rather than long, the cameras cover every corner, and the running boards are at the right height for children. Freeway, kerb and canyon are effortless; only the oldest Santa Monica structures need a slow approach.

Twenty-one is the floor, with a licence held two years. The higher band applies above a $1,500 deposit; this car is below it.

This one is the same rate at every length — it carries no multi-day block, so three days is three times one day. We would rather say that than imply a discount that is not there.
