01The departures kerb in the early morning — the place this car spends more of its life than any other.

It is the working alternative to the Escalade ESV, with the same underpinnings, the same independent rear suspension and a much plainer face, and the current one is far better than its reputation. At freeway speed it is quiet and settled rather than busy; the V8 is unhurried, the ride is soft, and a run to Palm Springs or Santa Barbara passes in near-silence.

White does something specific to a car this long: it breaks the flank with reflection instead of letting it read as one dark wall, so the Suburban looks like a large family vehicle rather than like a detail unit. It is the friendlier of the two we run, and by some distance the better one to photograph outdoors — which, for a wedding party or a week at the beach, is not a small thing.

How much does it cost to rent a white Chevrolet Suburban in Los Angeles?
The white Suburban is $299 a day. The day rate is the whole of it on this car — there is no weekly or monthly block, so a longer booking is priced day by day. Delivery to our Beverly Hills partner hotels is complimentary; LAX delivery is charged each way, in two tiers, and the figures are on our delivery page.
Suburban or Escalade ESV?
They do the same job on the same underpinnings, and the Suburban is the cheaper of the two. The ESV gives you the chrome, the captain's chairs and the badge; the Suburban gives you the seats and the luggage space and stops there. For an airport run with a full car, either works.
How many people and how much luggage?
Up to eight across three rows, with a boot behind the third row that is still usable when everybody is aboard. Tell us your party and your bag count and we will confirm it before you book.
Why white rather than black?
Because of where it is going. Black reads as a car service at a hotel entrance; white reads as a family car at a beach house, keeps the cabin cooler through a Malibu afternoon, and photographs better outdoors. If the week is airport runs and evening events, the black one is on the same page.
