McLaren Artura Spider

McLaren’s plug-in hybrid with the roof taken off: a twin-turbo V6 and an electric motor, 690 hp, doors that lift and a hard top that folds away.

Other supercars open their doors. This one raises them.

The Artura Spider is McLaren’s hybrid supercar with the roof taken off: a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 and an electric motor behind two seats, 690 hp in all, rear-wheel drive and 0–60 in 3.0 seconds. This one is black with orange calipers over a black cabin piped in orange, photographed on a palm-lined street.

Black McLaren Artura Spider head-on with both doors raised
01Head-on with both doors raised: the slim lamps, the flat nose and the low, wide stance of the Artura.

The doors come first. They are dihedral — they swing up and forward rather than out — so at the kerb the car stands with both raised and the whole of it on show: the low flat nose between slim lamps, the black wheels with an orange caliper behind each spoke, the black paint taking the palms and the sky.

The roof is a retractable hard top, and it is the reason the Spider exists. It folds away behind the seats in about eleven seconds, and McLaren says it will do it on the move at up to 31 mph. With nothing overhead, the V6 behind you is a great deal easier to hear.

Inside it is two seats and very little else: black seats piped in orange, a carbon-trimmed wheel, a driver display behind it and a tall portrait touchscreen to the right. There is a luggage compartment in the nose for the weekend’s soft bags.

On the road the electric motor fills in underneath the turbos, so the car is quick the moment you ask and keeps going from there. Book it by the day: the deposit is held on the card rather than charged, and the car arrives hand-detailed at your hotel, your home or LAX.

More about the Black McLaren Artura Spider

Artura Spider or Huracan Spider?

Both are two-seat, mid-engined convertibles that people look at first and drive second. The Artura is the hybrid: a turbo V6 and an electric motor, a hard top that folds away and doors that lift. The Huracan Spider is the V10 with no turbochargers — the louder, more traditional car.

Refundable deposit
$2,000
A hold, not a charge, and released 5–7 business days after a clean return, longer only if there is damage to price.
Protection plan
$225 a day
Priced off the deposit rather than the rate. Your own qualifying full-coverage policy takes this line out of the quote entirely.
Driver, 21–24
$175 a day
Twenty-one is the floor, with a licence held two years. The higher band applies at or above a $1,500 deposit; this car is in it.
Shortest booking
24 hours
No maximum. Delivery is complimentary at our Robertson Boulevard lot and our four Beverly Hills partner hotels; LAX is $150 both ways with the car in the airport parking structure or $300 both ways to the terminal, half that for one direction.

This one is the same rate at every length — it carries no multi-day block, so three days is three times one day.

Renting the McLaren Artura Spider: the short answers

Can I book the McLaren Artura Spider with a driver?
Yes. A chauffeur is from $100 an hour on a two-hour minimum, added to the car at its day rate — $1,750 for a four-hour evening in this car. No security deposit is taken on a chauffeured booking. The same car can be driven to the event and yours with the keys the morning after; the chauffeur service page has the runs and the hours.
What do I need to rent the McLaren Artura Spider, and can international guests book?
A driver of 21 or over with a licence held at least two years — between 21 and 24 a young-driver fee of $175 a day applies on this car, and under 21 is considered case by case. A major credit card in the primary renter's name for the refundable hold, and cover for the car: your own full-coverage policy if it extends to a rental, or our Protection plan arranged with the booking. International guests rent on a passport and a home-country licence; no International Driving Permit is needed. The hold is released 5–7 business days after a clean return, longer only if there is damage to price. If the age floor or the cover is the thing in the way, the same car goes out with a driver instead — that booking asks neither of you.
How far ahead should I book the McLaren Artura Spider, and can I change the dates?
There is no notice period: the calendar on this page shows the days it is free, and once a booking is paid a car that is free can be on its way to you in about an hour — same day included. Moving the dates is free, as often as you need, outside the last day before the start; a change inside it keeps one day's rate. What comes back if you cancel is set out in our terms and conditions.
Can the McLaren Artura Spider be delivered to my hotel, my home or LAX?
Yes. Delivery is complimentary to the Beverly Wilshire, the Four Seasons at Doheny, L’Ermitage and the Maybourne, and collection from our Robertson Boulevard office costs nothing. LAX is $150 both ways with the car in the airport parking structure or $300 both ways to the terminal, half that for one direction. Any other address is priced by distance from the office, $75 one way inside 10 miles, and itemised on the quote before you pay.
How many miles are included, and can I take the McLaren Artura Spider out of California?
Every car carries its own daily mileage allowance, and yours arrives in writing with the booking confirmation, together with the per-mile rate for anything over it. The car may leave the state — Las Vegas, Arizona, up the coast — as long as you tell us the plan in advance and keep the allowance in mind; it comes home to Los Angeles, since there is no one-way drop in another city.
What does a weekend in the McLaren Artura Spider cost, and can I rent it by the hour?
$2,700 for two days and $4,050 for three, before the Protection plan, tax and any delivery — there is no separate weekend rate, and one day is the minimum on a Saturday too. The day is the shortest self-drive booking; by the hour, the car goes out with a driver, from $100 an hour on a two-hour minimum.
