The straight-six is the reason to book it. It is turbocharged and it pulls from anywhere, but it also keeps revving past the point most turbo engines have given up, which is what separates an M car from a fast saloon. The eight-speed gearbox does the thinking in traffic and gets out of the way on Mulholland.

What surprises people is the ride. Adaptive dampers in comfort mode make it civilised over a patched Los Angeles surface — it is not a stiff-legged track car that punishes you between the good roads. How much does it cost to rent a BMW M4 in Los Angeles?
The yellow M4 is $449 a day. The day rate is the whole of it on this car — there is no weekly or monthly block, so a longer booking is priced day by day. Delivery to our Beverly Hills partner hotels is complimentary.
Is it usable as an everyday car for the week?
