Black Range Rover Velar from a front three-quarter

Nothing Sticks Out

Black Range RoverVelar

Flush handles, hidden seams and a surface Land Rover spent the whole budget keeping unbroken.

The Velar was designed by deleting things, and it is the only Range Rover you notice for what is missing.

The Velar sits between the Evoque and the Sport and justifies itself on surface alone — door handles that retract into the flank, a single unbroken line from headlight to tail, and glass that meets metal without a rubber seal in sight. Five seats underneath all of it.

Black Range Rover Velar from the rear three-quarter
01From behind, two narrow lamps and a tailgate with no visible join. Land Rover hid the seams and charged for it.

Every detail here is a subtraction. The handles sit flush until you touch them, the roof rails are cut into the roof rather than bolted onto it, and the light clusters are so narrow they read as a line rather than a lamp. Parked, it is the tidiest object on the street.

Inside the same logic continues: two screens replace almost every switch, and the ones that survive are milled metal dials that do two jobs each. It is a car built by people who found buttons embarrassing.

Queries

How much does it cost to rent a Range Rover Velar in Los Angeles?
The black Velar is $171 a day, with multi-day stays discounted. Delivery to our Beverly Hills partner hotels is complimentary.
How is it different from the Sport?
Lower, sleeker and more about surface than presence. The Sport is the one that fills a doorway; the Velar is the one people ask about because they cannot place it.
Can I see the dates before I call?
Yes — the diary on this page is the live fleet calendar. If a date is open there, it is open.
