Los Angeles traffic is the exact condition an electric car was invented for. There is no gearbox hunting for a ratio, no engine idling, no shove-and-lift as the transmission makes up its mind — just a car that moves when you ask and stops when you do not, in silence. After a week of it, going back to a combustion saloon in the same traffic feels agitated.

The other half of it is space. The EQS was designed around a flat floor, so there is no transmission tunnel and no engine to package, and the rear seat has more headroom than an S-Class does. The whole body is a single arch from nose to tail — the shape exists to cut drag rather than to look like a saloon, and the interior is the thing that shape bought.

It is also very easy to place for something this long, because the rear axle steers. At low speed the back wheels turn against the fronts and it parks like a car two sizes smaller; at freeway speed they turn with them and it simply tracks. It is the feature nobody books it for and everybody mentions afterwards.

02The face and the wheel. There is no grille because there is nothing behind it that needs air — the panel is closed, and the star is the whole front.

How much does it cost to rent a Mercedes EQS in Los Angeles?
The black EQS is $299 a day. The day rate is the whole of it on this car — there is no weekly or monthly block, so a longer booking is priced day by day. Delivery to our Beverly Hills partner hotels is complimentary, and it arrives fully charged.
Where do I charge it?
It is delivered fully charged, which covers a normal day in the city without a thought. If you are covering serious distance, say so when you book and we will talk you through the nearest fast chargers to wherever you are staying.
Is it difficult to park for a car that size?
Less than you would think. The rear axle steers, so at low speed the back wheels turn against the front ones and the car swings into spaces a saloon this long has no business fitting.
Is it as comfortable in the back as an S-Class?
There is more headroom in the back of this than in an S-Class, because there is no transmission tunnel and the roof is one long arch. If the point of the week is being driven rather than driving, it is the right car in the fleet.

Damage and liability cover

Mandatory, and priced off the deposit rather than the rate. Your own qualifying full-coverage policy takes this line out of the quote entirely.

Twenty-one is the floor, with a licence held two years. The higher band applies above a $1,500 deposit; this car is below it.

This one is the same rate at every length — it carries no multi-day block, so three days is three times one day. We would rather say that than imply a discount that is not there.
