For eight generations the Corvette had its engine in the nose. The C8 moved it behind the seats, which turned a fast American coupe into something that corners like the European cars costing three times as much. Ours is in yellow, which is the colour the shape was drawn for.

01From the side the cabin sits far forward and the deck behind it is all engine. Nothing about the proportions is borrowed from the cars that came before.

Moving the engine backwards does two things. It puts the weight over the driven wheels, so the car leaves a corner instead of scrabbling out of it, and it moves the driver forward until you are sitting almost over the front axle — which is why the first mile in a C8 feels like sitting in something much more expensive.

What it does not do is make it difficult. There is a boot at each end, the suspension has a setting that survives Los Angeles road surfaces, and the roof panel comes out if the day turns into that kind of day.

How much does it cost to rent a Chevrolet Corvette in Los Angeles?

The yellow Corvette is $349 a day. Five days is priced as a block rather than as five separate days, and twenty-one as another; the quote takes whichever combination is cheaper for your dates, and neither has to be asked for. Delivery to our Beverly Hills partner hotels is complimentary.

What is different about the C8?

Does the roof come off?

On this one, yes — the panel above the seats lifts out and stows in the rear boot. There is a second boot in the nose for luggage.

The terms, before you commit

Refundable deposit: $750; A hold, not a charge. Back with you 5–7 business days after the car is home.
Damage and liability cover: $100 a day; Mandatory, and priced off the deposit rather than the rate. Your own qualifying full-coverage policy takes this line out of the quote entirely.
Driver, 21–24: $50 a day; Twenty-one is the floor, with a licence held two years. The higher band applies above a $1,500 deposit; this car is below it.
