Nothing else in this issue makes people take out a phone at a red light. This does it every single time.
The Cybertruck is thirty-degree angles and bare stainless steel, with no paint, no curves and no interest in what anything else on the road looks like. Six hundred horsepower through two motors, five seats, a six-foot bed — and the only silhouette in Los Angeles that everybody recognises from behind.

The panels are structural. That is the part most people miss: there is no frame underneath with steel hung on it, the stainless exoskeleton is the structure, which is why it cannot be stamped into curves and why it is not painted. Every strange thing about the shape follows from that one decision.
What it means to drive is stranger still. Two and a half tonnes that reach sixty in four seconds in complete silence, steering that needs half a turn lock to lock, and rear wheels that steer with it — so the thing that looks like it belongs on a construction site turns inside a Beverly Hills parking structure.
The panels are not bodywork.
They are the structure.
02One screen, one squared-off wheel, and almost nothing else — plus a dashboard panel with the name sprayed across it in graffiti, which is either a joke or the whole point.
04Six feet of bed under a cover that rolls itself back, and a second boot where the engine would have been. Both lock.

Queries
- How much does it cost to rent a Tesla Cybertruck in Los Angeles?
- The Cybertruck is $449 a day, with multi-day stays discounted. Delivery to our Beverly Hills partner hotels is complimentary.
- Do I need to think about charging?
- Less than you would expect. It covers a long day around Los Angeles on a charge, and the Supercharger network is dense enough here that topping up is a coffee stop rather than a plan. We hand it over full.
- Does it actually work as a pickup?
- Yes. The bed is six feet with a powered cover that rolls back, there is a second boot under the bonnet, and five people fit inside without negotiating.
