The 911 Cabriolet takes the current 992 coupé and swaps the roof for fabric that folds away behind the rear seats. Under the engine cover sits a 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six with an eight-speed PDK: 379 hp to the rear wheels in the Carrera, 443 hp to all four in the Carrera 4S, and 60 mph four seconds away or less.
What makes it so good in Los Angeles is how little it asks of you. It is narrow enough for a Beverly Hills side street, the PDK does the thinking in traffic, and the roof is a switch on the console: about twelve seconds, at low speed, so it is down before the light changes on Sunset. The two rear seats are small, made for a bag or a jacket; two adults travel in comfort and the boot is under the bonnet.
The beach road at sunset, a canyon road at sunrise, a hotel valet in between — it suits all three.
