White BMW 7 Series seen close on the nose, kidney grille and headlight

Quiet Mile

White BMW7 Series

Three hundred and seventy-five horsepower, five seats, and the quietest hundred and twenty-five dollars a day in the fleet.

Most of this issue is about the twenty minutes people watch you arrive. This one is about the two hours nobody sees.

The 7 Series is the car BMW builds when it stops trying to prove anything — a turbocharged straight six, a wheelbase long enough for the back seat to matter, and a cabin sealed against the freeway. It costs less per day than most of the fleet costs per hour of attention.

White BMW 7 Series from the rear three-quarter beneath trees
01Nearly seventeen feet of it, and almost no line to break the side. BMW draws the 7 as one length of metal and lets the wheelbase do the talking.

There is a reason the 7 outlasts the fashion around it. The straight six is the smoothest engine layout anybody builds, the rear axle steers a little to make a long car park like a short one, and the cabin is sealed well enough that a phone call at seventy sounds like a phone call at rest.

What that buys in Los Angeles is the unglamorous half of the week. The airport run, the meeting downtown, the two hours on the 405 that every other car in this issue would make you regret. It is the least photographed thing we rent and quietly one of the most booked.

Nobody photographs the drive home.
This is the car for it.

03White on a tree-lined street is about as quiet as a car this size gets. That is the specification, not a compromise.

Queries

How much does it cost to rent a BMW 7 Series in Los Angeles?
The white 7 Series is $125 a day, with multi-day stays discounted. Delivery to our Beverly Hills partner hotels is complimentary.
Is it a car to be driven in or to drive?
Both, which is what separates a 7 from the limousines it competes with. The back seat is a proper place to spend an hour on the freeway, and the car is still tuned to be worth taking the long way home in.
Can I see the dates before I call?
Yes — the diary on this page is the live fleet calendar. If a date is open there, it is open.
